Habits and Hangups

Kenny is a nose-picker.   I know that all kids at this age probably are, but he gets into it with such gusto that he actually zones out sometimes when he’s got a good one.   Fortunately, he has a pretty good sense of humor about it, too.

I will say, “Ya goin’ fishin’ Kenny?”

“Yep!” he’ll reply, with a smile, “Catchin’ a big one, too!”

When he learned the names of his fingers (thumb, ring finger, etc.), he held up the pointer finger on his right hand and said, “This is my pointer, but it’s really my picker finger!” and cackled about it for the rest of the day.

Today I was clipping his nails and when I got to said finger, he shouted, “Mama!   Not too short!   That’s my picker finger!!”   I stopped mid-clip and re-adjusted, giving him a little more nail to spare.   He inspected it.   “Whew,” he said.   “I needed that.”

    Give that boy a banjo!

  2. I love that they are all the same. it’s so comforting to know that you are not alone in this world. I like your blog a lot…I have 3 boys, and my youngest is a Cooper too. I hope you are not too tired. My 3rd pregnancy really took it out of me, but it is definitely easier after the first trimester. Hang in there and keep blogging…you have a beautiful family.

  3. I nearly pee’d my pants laughing!! Is this what I have to look forward to with my son?!

  4. Nose picking grosses me out, but this is an almost heartwarming post. My daughter has the tiniest nostrils and struggles to clear her nose, so we have to resort to using tweezers to clear things if She hasn’t blown her nose for a few days which She hates to do and rarely manages to clear, anyway. Ugghh. I can’t believe I’m sharing this with a stranger. 😆

I might just use the ‘going fishing’ thing to make light of it if that’s okay ’cause we both don’t like the process, but I’m glad She can’t stick her finger in easily. lol Kenny seems to have a wicked sense of humour 🙂

  5. I cured my daughter of picking (she’s six) by explaining how the nose works (cilia and all) and what those little hairs catch: dirt, dust, germs. She was so disgusted that she might be eating dirt. You’d think the whole booger thing would have scared her off. No, but dust…that was a deal-breaker. LOL.

  6. LOL @ “I needed that.”

Kaily has a tendency to suck on chicken bones for some reason, especially chicken wings.

It drives me crazy that she will have a plate full of food and she is sucking on one chicken bone that has been sucked clean!

  7. Too funny. I have a five year-old-boy (just turned 5 yesterday) and it’s been a real experience. I discovered that you can ‘accidentally’ pee in an empty waste basket. Who knew? 🙂

  8. This really made me smile today! Thanks for that.
